Scenario Congratulations! You are in the final stages of setting up and launching your dream café business. Your café is located in the heart of the city, the café layout is amazing and you have customers regularly coming past the shop front asking when you are starting business. It is time to hire staff and build your staff culture.
Task You are to create a diversity policy and procedure chapter for a human resource manual for your café. Your chapter is to include the following tasks: 1. A business rationale for implementing a diversity policy and procedures, listing benefits/value of diversity, including to product/service, and potential costs of failing to provide diversity. 2. A plan for internal and external promotion of the café’s diversity policy. 3. A policy stating the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of your diversity policy, including acknowledgement of the Race, Sex, Disability, and Age Discrimination Acts, equal employment opportunity, and human rights. 4. Plan for communication of policy to staff of your café. 5. A recruitment procedure — how you going to identify the right person for each role. 6. A training outline — training for different levels of staff in value of diversity, working, and celebrating difference and how to manage tension/conflict.
