Performance Analysis of solar water heater – Research Proposal

1)-Introduction:

Since long time the world used that the major sources of energy like coal, oil and natural gas. Due to following three reasons, it is relevant to utilize the naturally renewable energy as sunlight based energy to supplant fossil fuel: (a) As the world’s population grows and science develops, the consumption of energy is increasing day by day, (b) the non-renewable energy source holds world over are decreasing significantly, and (c) during burning the fossil fuel and emission of harmful gases the ozone layer will be harmed which led to contributing essentially to an Earth-wide temperature increasing. Solar water heaters are used all over the world specifically in sunny countries where sun-shine is abundant. In this project I will talk about performance analysis of solar water heater. (Tyagi et al, 2018)

2)-Purpose of the project:

The purpose of this project is analysis to use solar energy instead of electricity to generate the heat in solar water heater, with excellent performance.

3) Objectives of the project:

The objectives of this study are:

1) Collecting data about solar water heater

2) To design and develop a solar water heater

Difference between evacuated tube solar collector and flat-plate solar collectors.

3) iInvestigation how the performance of solar water heater changes by using velocity enhancer.

4) To study the influences of How to minimize the dust on which effect on the performance of solar panels.

4)-Background of the study:

Solar energy : Omanhas an excellent potential for solar energy development and deployment. Solar energy is a vital and strategic solution for the provision of electric power in the Sultanate of Oman. Given the vast unused land and available solar energy resources solar energy is a viable option in Oman and could not only cater to the growing need for energy diversification but also would help in economic diversification. A solar heater not only enables substantial energy savings as solar power is free in contrast to natural gas or fuel oil. Moreover, it is a way to produce hot water for sanitary use throughout the year without emitting any CO2. Solar water heater: A solar water heater is a device that captures sunlight to heat water. It can be an economical way to generate hot water for your family (for shower and bath) or also it can be used in industrial companies as exchanger in oil and gas plants.

Flat plate solar collectors and Evacuated tube solar collectors:

Flat plate collectors: A typical solar water heater consists of a solar collector mounted on the roof of a building and connected to a water-storage tank. The solar water heater absorbs light by means of a collector placed on the roof and converts it into heat. Flat plate collectors have glass on top and have blackened metallic absorbers inside and riser tubes to carry water.

Evacuated tube collectors: Evacuated tube collectors are made of a glass tube where the outer covering absorbs the solar radiation and the heat generated is transferred to the flowing water.

Evacuated tube solar collectors have better performance than flat-plate solar collectors in particular for high temperature operations or in unfavorable weather conditions. Various heat extraction strategies from all-glass evacuated tube have been created and the water-in-glass idea has been seen as the best because of its straight for wardens and low manufacturing cost. Variables impacting the operation of water-in-glass collector tube are talked about and a numerical investigation of water course through long single-finished thermosyphon cylinders is displayed. Fundamental numerical reproductions have shown the presence of latent area close to the fixed end of the tube which may impact the performance of the collector. (G.L. Morrison et al, 2003).

5)-Methodology:
Tthe Methodology adopted to achieve the aforementioned objectives include:which has been used to test the performance of solar water heater :

  1. Research in different sources to get more information about the solar water heater.
  2. Developing and fabricating Solar water heater.
  3. Comparing between evacuated tube solar collector and flat-plate solar collectors.
  4. Experiment would be prepared in two different area in Oman to see how the dust aeffect the in performance of solar water heater.

6)-Required materials:

The required materials for the solar water heater are.

  • Plate or tube collector used to collect sun radiation.
  • Water storage tank.
  • Thermometer.

7)-Necessity of solar water heater:

For the following purpose, solar water heater is designed.

  • Reduce the use of electricity
  • Environmental friendly solar water heater
  • maintenance free
  • commercial
  • reduce cost of the electricity bill

8)-Risk Assessment:

A risk assessment must be finished previously work begins. This spreads development, water quality also, bacterial dangers. An evaluation of dangers to laborers, householders, and individuals from people in general what’s more, creatures can’t be made except if a capable individual actually visits the site (this is extraordinary from a specialized review which might be conceivable to complete away from the site).

11)-The advantages of the solar water heater are:

  1. No or negligible running cost.
  2. Save money on your electric bills because of the reduction in your consumption.
  3. Water can be heated on cloudy days too. The solar heater uses diffused energy in the atmosphere to heat the water.
  4. Environmentally friendly system so carbon footprint can be reduced.
  5. You can get hot water even if you are facing power cuts, since you don’t depend on electricity for the hot water
