Assessment Instructions and Requirements
LO 4: Utilise analysis tools and network simulators for analysing and optimizing network performance, and resources in real-world scenarios
LO 5: Critically assess a network
In this assessment you are required to produce an academic report by critically assessing networks in terms of its network performance and resources by utilising analysis tools and network simulators to analyse and optimise the network scenarios provided to you.
You are required to critically assess individually the two (2) network scenarios which represents some real-world network setup as shown below. You are provided two (2) packet tracer files which you will use to answer the requirements below.
Scenario 1
Scenario2
Read the following requirements and instructions carefully and use them to guide you in writing the academic report:
Requirement 1: Use the network simulator Cisco Packet Tracer to run the files that have been provided to you and use Cisco NetFlow analyser to critically assess each network setup on its performance in terms of the following metrics:
- Packet Delivery Ratio
- Average Network Delay
- Jitter
- Round Trip Time
- File upload and download rate (only applicable to scenario 1)
Your report must include evidences of data collected using the analysis tool and corresponding interpretation and explanation of the results gathered. (20 marks)
Requirement 2: Based on the results gathered, identify issues on the network performance and resources. Justification on why it is an issue to the current network setup must be provided. (10 marks)
Requirement 3: Provide recommendation(s) to ensure optimised network perfomance and resources in the network setup. Justify your recommendation(s). (15 marks)
Requirement 4: Test your recommendation(s) and compare your results to the initial analysis done in requirement 1. Has your network performance been optimised in terms of the metrics mentioned in requirement 1? Justify your answers. Your discussion must also include justifications if the recommendation cannot be implemented and tested on this scenario.
(10 marks)
Report Structure, English Writing and APA references
The academic report needs to be presented in formal report writing format with a word limit of 3000 (±10%). Aim for grammatical/and spelling error-free. Apply APA 6th edition as referencing styles to both in-text citation and reference list. (5 marks)
Note: Check the marking rubric on pages 7 -11 for the marks allocation and marking guideline to ensure you gain optimum marks.
